Microdosing Support
"Microdosing psilocybin in sub-hallucinogenic doses has also demonstrated benefit in mood disorders, and may offer a safe, less expensive, and more available alternative to full doses of psilocybin for mood disorders, as well as for other medical conditions in which inflammation is the principal pathophysiology." - Mushrooms, Microdosing and Mental Illness (2025)
Microdosing: How we can help
Microdosing psilocybin involves taking sub-perceptual doses - typically around 50-300mg of dried mushrooms or the equivalent - with the intention of enhancing mood, creativity, focus, or emotional regulation without producing a full psychedelic experience. It's important to remember that microdosing exists in a different category than psilocybin-assisted therapy - it's typically self-directed rather than clinically supervised, and we don't yet have the robust research foundation that we do for therapeutic doses.
Common protocols include the Fadiman protocol (one day on, two days off) or the Stamets Stack (four days on, three days off, often combined with supplements), though there's no consensus on optimal dosing schedules. For individuals considering microdosing we recomend working with a knowledgeable practitioner, starting with conservative doses, keeping a journal to track effects.
The Fadiman Protocol:
Developed by Dr. James Fadiman, this is the most classic and widely followed regimen. It involves a three-day cycle:
-
Day 1: Microdose day.
-
Day 2: Transition day (no dose, to observe any residual effects).
-
Day 3: Normal day (no dose, to return to baseline).
-
This cycle is then repeated. Dr. Fadiman typically recommends following this protocol for four to eight weeks, followed by a “reset” break of two to four weeks.
The Stamets Stack Protocol:
Developed by renowned mycologist Paul Stamets, this protocol involves a different schedule and is specifically designed to be used with his “stack” of synergistic supplements. The schedule is typically:
-
Days 1-4: Microdosing days.
-
Days 5-7: Off days.
-
This cycle is repeated for up to a month, followed by a reset period.
-
The microdose is usually taken with lion's mane and niacin.
With the support of an integration therapist, you can track and process the changes you notice happening in your life. While the effects are usually subtle, microdosing can be an excellent support while doing difficult work in therapy.
